Spiritually Jousting With an Old Friend
This is part of a letter I wrote in response to an old
gun-toting, Republican friend who had just sent an email suggesting
that I was a bit off my rocker, and being way too optomistic...and he
added: "Don't Drink the Kool-Aid!"
I am leaving out the very personal part of this letter that I wrote
in response to my high school friend who has been repeatedly sending
agressive messages and graphics denouncing our American president,
Muslims, and others. I realized that each of us had been sending
the other our messages---I sending my own ideas about the loving
shift we are experiencing---but neither of us had really ever
responded to the other about these beliefs. We were just sending
our own stuff. And most of his stuff was angry.
He and I had lived through four years of all-boys Catholic education
over 40 years ago. Just previous to this exchange, I had sent a video
link that include a request that he summon the courage to watch the
video. This aroused his ire, expressed in the first lines of his
reply, deleted here.
I invite your discussion in the comments section of this blog.

Starting, I believe, sometime in August, a lot of shit is going to hit
the fan even harder than it has been: monetary system, geophysical
changes, government disclosures and religious scandal that will
decimate the Church....and undeniable evidence that will rock the
world. We are moving beyond our stupidity.
Collectively, we are reaching the point of being fed up:
Fed up with how we are treated by our governments, fed up
with organized religion, and fed up with the basic way that
we have been treating ourselves and responding to the world.
In the meantime, I see so many people---including my old high school
and college friends---living as if everything is rosy and that the
insane world in which we live makes it acceptable to live life in a
way that is spiritually draining and consciousness deadening.
And so many are just avoiding life, trying to stuff the pain. Our
friends (XX and YY) are literally eating themselves to death.......
using food for their fleeting comfort. They don't want to be with life.
I see people leaning on religion in a way that just saps their power.
We all have a right to believe in the god of our choice, but it is sad
that religion as we know it, virtually all organized religion, is just
set up to make us weak. Real religion unites and empowers people.
Big church religion divides, disempowers, and is fear mongering. Its
my passion to express these ideas in what I write. More fully
integrating and sharing them is what my life is all about.
And I generally don't waste my time expressing them personally to
anyone whom I do not sense may be somewhat receptive. When I had a
little stretch of homelessness back in May, I had a talk with a
fundamentalist guy, a Baptist. As we sat by the sea shore, it became
clear that the basis for his deciding his beliefs wasn't at all having
to do with verifiable facts, obvious realities, or internal guidance.
The number one criteria for all his spiritual beliefs was the Bible
and what his minister said. The guidance of his own heart was never
mentioned.
So many do not trust themselves.
We--the world---are coming into a time when we are going to be
trusting ourselves more completely. Where we don't think we need some
pompous religion to tell us what to believe spiritually, where we set
our own commandments because we trust ourselves.
We are learning that you do not fight fire with fire. That love is
the intended response to everything we experience: we learn this as we
evolve.
Call me an altruist, but I believe that we are soon to become a world
in full harmony, willing and naturally able to respond to each other
and all experience with love.
Anger, fear, vengeance, remorse, guilt, and hopelessness are products
of our allegiance to blood-sucking government and spiritually stupid
religions. That is just my truth, not a judgment but a simple
observation. I honestly do not understand how anyone who is really
awake and has some level of intelligence can call themselves Catholic.
No kidding. I don't get it. To me, that's like saying to yourself:
"I need someting outside myself to know what is spiritually right for
me. I am too stupid or unworthy to trust myself to live in a
loving way that will not find me damned by God to an eternal frying
pan."
I feel sad in being so up-front about it, but that kind of thinking
feels like its just Homer Simpson-stupid.
If there was ANY hard evidence to back up the whole eternal damnation
thing, the unworthiness, the separation, all that.....then maybe I
could understand why so many people delude themselves with
Catholicism. Sure, there is some worthy content in the Bible, but the
Bible and most church teachings are full of guilt and fear mongering.
Its about people controlling the flock. And there are a whole lot of
people who are acting like ignorant sheep in being a part of that
flock.
There IS plenty of evidence that the most empowering aspects of the
Bible have been ripped out of it over the centuries. Just check out
the Gospel of Thomas, discovered with the other Dead Sea Scrolls.
And if there was any evidence that Mohammed was anything other than a
gangster, then I could understand what the Muslims believe. But
there's nothing. The Muslim and the Catholic scriptures are just a
bunch of self-contradicting, fear-inducing content that is largely
lies or fiction. There is nothing in the way of evidence to suggest
otherwise. Nothing.
Some people have become so conditioned by their upbringing that they
believe a whole slew of lies that they call truth. All based on
nothing that makes any sense to the heart.
We are soon to become a heart-based society. Those who do not want to
join in that---those who cling to the old ways that do not work and
never have---will not make it. If you cling to the vengeful,
kick-ass, get angry, get hopeless or get righeously guilty ways of
thinking, you will not survive the coming shift in their current
bodies. They will be "left behind" to reincarnate until they fully
discover and practice their loving natures.
There is no them. It's all us.
And you can think that deluded or not, your choice, buddy. I wouldnt
write this stuff if I didn't love you. It has been quite a challenge
to me to live in this insane world and I have, at times, let it
depress me for long stretches. I have lived most of my adult life
on the financial edge and have lived big chunks of time
isolated, alone.
That has pushed me to where I am now and I am OK with it. Its good.
So that is my loving vent, -----. I am moving along a path as best I
can. I intend to be of service to as many as I can. But I have no
attachment to your having any particular opinion or judgment about me.
And unless I hear another preference from you, will refrain from
sending anything spiritual to you in the future. I now get that it
has not been welcome and am not attached to you being anything other
than who you want to be.
And I would also appreciate your taking me off your "Pissed Off at
Obama and the Muslims Email List". Thank you.
Best to you and your family.
All Love,
Carlo

I present this without judgment: I am observing behavior rather than
suggesting someone is bad or evil.
Consider: How might you have handled such a situation with someone
you care about but rarely connnect with?
Does it ever serve you to be attached to changing someone else's
spiritual philosophy or religious outlook?
How do you know when to draw the line between being proactive in
sharing your truth and respecting others' right to live their own lives?
Is it your "job" to wake up others?
Christmas Without Christ?
A friend with whom I often trade opposing points of view sent an article my way today about how offensive it is that our governments have taken the Christ out of Christmas. The article he forwarded was written by John Bennett. Here are a few samples from the article:
“Maintaining Christmas is part of preserving the culture that gave us almost everything that we have worth keeping. The whole name-changing charade is neurotic because it forces people to pretend that our majority culture is not what it actually is.”
Later: “Just follow the logic of his statement. We want to be inclusive, which means embrace diversity. Therefore we are going to express disapproval for the majority culture that made this nation great, which is what attracted those diverse people in the first instance.”
“Make no mistake about it, those who rip Christmas out of public life are duplicitous and exploitative, no matter what they claim their victim status to be, and no matter how noble their motives.”
My reply to the friend who sent the article:
The plea for logic and call to taking offense is rather silly, (my friend).
Anyone of reasonable intelligence who has some sense of logic will not buy the picture the vast majority of organized Christianity paints of an all-Loving God whose wrath we should fear because He may condemn us to eternal torture in Hell. Most Christianity, while it will not admit it, worships a god that is severely schizophrenic. And these beliefs are based on the words of corrupted men with a devious agenda who lived centuries after Christ died. The evidence is quite clear that the Catholic Church has suppressed much of the beauty of the original Bible in the name of manipulating their flock. There may not be any crime more severe than this.
One has to be deluded to subscribe to a god that can be so nasty. And subscription to such a god is totally without logic and totally without foundation.
The tactics of militant Muslims so condemned by most of Christianity are the same tactics the Catholic Church has used over the years to grow its flock of sheep. This label of Catholicism's followers may seem harsh, but is apt: following blindly, mostly because of fear, is what sheep do.
It is easier to forget that and just point the finger at the misguided Muslims who want to blow themselves and others to smithereens to earn lasting sexual privileges with seventy-odd virgins in the afterlife. Some conveniently forget the Inquisitons and the Crusades, condoned by the Church, during which men, women and children were brutalized and killed for their religious convictions or lack of them.
It is so easy to forget the unconsious means by which the Catholic Church has advanced its cause, right up to the present day times when they would rather shuffle around hundreds or thousands of child-abusing priests to molest more kids than fess up and kick the perverts out. Add that to the current Vatican banking scandal and you realize that we are witnessing the death of a very corrupt institution....if people simply are willing to see the truth and respond with integrity.
Bennett labels those who are complaining about governments’ not supporting Christmas-labeled events as “duplicitous and exploitative”. Isn’t it ironic that the entire documented history of the Catholic Church’s leadership has been exactly that. Anybody caring to do even brief research from sources outside the church itself will see this. Most of their followers would rather not look.
We are now living out the consequences of allowing particular religious influence being condoned by government, even promoted by governments. Those who identify us as a "Christian nation," tend to exclude those who are not Christian. At the very least, these people like to pretend that membership in their church earns them some extra slack on judgement day. This plays into the hands of those financial and religious forces who want to lead us around like sheep. Many married to their religion have gladly complied with thier church's doctrine even when they don't believe in it. Compliance here is a product of their fear.
Who wants to live in fear? Do you? That is the yoke you place on your shoulders when you subscribe to the vast majority of what we call Christianity today. More and more are choosing the courage and trust to walk away from such insanity.
It has been proven in conflicts over the centuries, from boardrooms to battlefields: The way to conquer people is to divide them: Christian versus Muslim, fundamentalist Christian versus liberal Christian. And those of the Christian faith cannot seem to find a way to unify themselves, to create commonality: Today there are over 35,0000 demominations calling themselves Christian: Divided and Conquered. Like our behavior in our political arenas, our choice to fight each about religion keeps us weak. The purpose of any worthy religion would be to unify and empower. The vast majority of religion today---all of the big ones---do exactly the opposite.
The Bennett article stirs people up to take offense. As a culture we are learning the hard lesson that it does not make sense to take offense about how other people label you or your beliefs. Taking offense is stupid, ignorant. Under the Bush administration, all the Christian organizations got favored status and lots of money. They kept the word "religion" out of it; they called the money handouts to religous organizations "Faith-Based." Some of the rules our often-misguided forefathers made that had to do with keeping church and State separate were good ones. Along with the corrupt bankers and money barons, maybe the biggest problem in our world today is (most of) organized religion and the sheep who either abuse "non-believers" or who take offense that others do not want our governments promoting such a foolish, destructive set of beliefs.
The most pious of big religions' leaders often voice their offense at the words of others. They judge. They condemn. Just like their god.
Let me be clear: I apppreciate the greatness of Jesus; His pure message is a beautiful teaching and His example has been abused and distorted by most of the leadership of the major Christian religions. This is not a judgment, but a simple observation. Just look at what has been expunged from the Bible over the centuries and you will see clearly that what was taken out was spiritually empowered. Most organized religion wants to vest all power in their organization...and little, if any, in their followers.
Sure, there is a part of many of us who grew up with traditional Christian religion that regrets that Christmas has become for so many more about excuses for excesses in food and alcohol, and that it has become for many something that has little to do with Christ. We might miss seeing the Christmas label on so many things this time of year. The unfortunate truth is that the leadership of the vast majority of Christianity’s leaders have polluted Christ’s word to such a thorough and destructive extent that it may more spiritually profitable for all of us to find other ways to honor the Christlike in all of us.
It starts with tolerance, forgiveness and awareness of what is really important in life, and that is simply to love each other and ourselves more ruthlessly. We are waking up to this possibility for our true redemption. Fighting each other, taking offense at others' beliefs, worrying about how others judge you...these are all so self-destructive.
Let's really wake up; let's choose to love one another.
What Can You Do About the Mess the World Is In?
The question has come up so many times in the last year or so. Given the strange and chaotic state of the world, people often write or speak of their frustration in not knowing what they can DO about the problems of the world. What can YOU do about the mess the world is in? An essay received via email today provoked the following response from me. Here is that response.
Dear Suzy,
Good points are made in the essay you forwarded, yet the suggested responses to these realities fall short. It is suggested there that we ostracize the bad guys, stand up and make a stink with our legislators, find somebody else to yell at or otherwise find ways to vent our anger at the nebulous system.
These responses have been shown over and over again to be counter-productive.
We are in the middle of a revolution. It is a revolution of consciousness. It will not be won by taking up arms, by screaming in the streets or by any letter writing campaign. The revolution will be won based upon what we are being, not just what we are doing.
As we choose to be the loving beings that we are at depth, the collective consciousness will suffocate egoic ignorance.
There are many more people in this world who are either innocent or well-intentioned than there are those who would like to control the world and usurp its resources. We are being called to respond to the challenges of life with love, with a sense of unity, and with compassion. Loving actions are a natural mirror for what is inside of oneself that one is willing to see and with which one is willing to identify. (OK, read that last line again; it does make sense.) The ultimate “key to the kingdom” is to identify with the heart and choose more and more consistently to reflect that knowledge in your actions.
This requires awareness, trust and courage. Awareness is just the willingness to see what is in front of you. Many today would rather hide, pretending that they do not see. They hide behind alcohol, food, drugs, stupid television, sexual excess, or anything that will divert their attention from reality. Trust and courage become more possible as one moves beyond avoidance, powerlessness and fear.
We have been conditioned to be fearful and to have a sense of powerlessness. This is how the dark or corrupt forces want us to be. We are being called by a higher power to wake up.
Our system of government in the United States is broken and is beyond reform. It will be replaced as a natural outgrowth of the revolution of consciousness. No blood. No marching in the streets required.
Still, the mind wants to know: what can we DO now? What we do as individuals makes an impact on the collective. So helping others to wake up is important. We can wake up to the fact that most of our religions---ALL of the major ones---are spiritually draining of the collective called humanity. It is time for us to dump these religions. Any worthy religion unites and empowers. The major religions of today do exactly the opposite: they weaken and divide. So key number one in responding to the call of the day: Dump divisive religion now. Believing in a very separate-from-you, schizophrenic god who damns and tortures those who break "His" rules is spiritually life-draining.
Key number two is to commit to living a more conscious, loving and aware life. Be willing to see what is in front of you and then more and more consistently respond to everything with love.
Key three: drop judgment. If we are all indeed One, then judgment of another is judgment of Self, and hence self-abusive. Exercise discernment and prudence about where and to whom you give your energy, but ix-nay on the udgment-jay.
Key four: Bless the so-called “bad guys.” The corrupt who torture, enslave, poison and bankrupt us are just ignorant. Send them your love, not your resentment or anger. It is your love and your love alone that will win the revolution of consciousness. And the result will be an era of harmony, one beginning sooner than many think.
Key five: See everyone and everything you experience as your teacher. Their lesson is to love. The most challenging of people and experiences are opportunities to choose a loving response. As we more and more consistently do this, we raise our own---and the collective—-vibration; we raise our consciousness.
I explore this consciousness revolution in more detail in my new book, The Wake Up Book, that will be available starting this Friday at www.YourPauseButton.com Without presenting anything dogmatically, the book guides readers to discover their own truth by consulting the will of their hearts.
Thanks for all the great work you do, Suzy. You, too, are a “wake up artist.”

Debug Your Operating System With Heart Propaganda
Heart Propaganda-Debugging Your Operating System
by Carlo Ami
Like our computers, we all have an operating system. Think of your body and brain as part of your hardware. Think of the mind as housing your data files and memory. You might also consider, for a moment, that harbored in your heart is a great anti-virus program, something that can clean up incorrect or polluted data.
All your life you have been inputting data into yourself: experiences, emotions, assessments, and the judgments of your own self and of others. Much of the input has been false data that has polluted your hard-drive, that part of you that stores your beliefs, your understanding of what is true. Whether innocently or purposefully, the institutions in which you have placed your faith have been feeding you data about yourself and your world that is often false. The truth about the most important facets of life---who you are, why you are here, and what comes next when this life is over---has been corrupted.
Most of our religions on this planet feature a wrathful, commanding and judging god who can be very unhappy if you break “His” rules or if you happen to have chosen the “wrong” religion. Most religious propaganda is very unforgiving. If you mess up, you could end up frying forever on the rotisserie of some god’s eternal barbeque pit.
While heart sense might tell you that the purpose of any worthy religion would be to unite and empower people, most religion does exactly the opposite of that. So many hold onto religious scriptures as the word of some omnipotent god when the truth is that most religious scriptures as we see them today are the product of men with an agenda that is spiritually blood-sucking. The only reason people hold onto believing in a wrathful god is fear of that same non-existent god.
Likewise, we would prefer to see our governments as institutions that protect, respect and serve us while the reality of it is that most of our governments act in direct opposition to their originally-stated intention. In the United States, our consitition is in tatters. It is government of the rich, by the rich and for the rich. We have allowed their propaganda to keep us collectively docile, sleepy, and powerless.
Our religions and our governments tend to be very much like the human ego: judging, condemning, confused and afraid of losing their sense of power. The input of faulty data into our personal operating systems, repeated frequently over the course of our lives has resulted in the reality of our not thinking too highly of ourselves, and in our not having a lot of faith in a better future. For many, life is something to get through, to tolerate, and is often seen as probably a punishment for not living consistently with some moral or religious doctrine.
The mechanism of any propaganda is repetition. Our religions, governments and media know this truth and how effective it can be. It is now up to us to more and more consistently employ the secret weapon of Love: Heart Propaganda. Being in touch frequently with what I call the Propaganda of the Heart is a fruitful path to a more enlightened you and a more enlightened world.
Disavowing the faulty input of religious, governmental or media propaganda does not work. There is something strange but very true about the workings of the human mind: When it is fed data that has a negative word in it (“stop smoking”, “quit nagging”, “not do drugs”) the output of our inner computer is anxiety. Affirming what we do not want can make us feel a little crazy. When one thinks of something that one doesn’t want, one is still picturing what that thing or experience is. This is a form of self-torture, a hallmark of futility and confusion. Please use your “pause button” and ponder what has been expressed here so far before continuing to read this article.
The human civilization sits largely asleep at a crucial crossroads in its history. We have slugged along our collective path in a state of ignorance about what is important, about why we are here.
Most of us do not know what true power is. We do not understand that we have defined it as something totally other than what it is. Many see power as the ability to manipulate others, to dominate, to instill fear in others. One cannot truly evolve until one sees that true power is based in love and respect for self and all other creatures.
Think about it: Who are you? The heart will tell you that you cannot be your body. The body is obviously quite temporary in nature and has all kinds of challenges, demands and breakdowns. You cannot be your mind, either. The mind has all kinds of obviously idiotic demands and constructs.
To put it simply: It helps to conceptualize who you are as some combination of heart and soul. Operating with this as a belief can be very productive in all areas of your life.
I see my soul as infinite and fully connected to everything. It lives forever. There is no book that can convince me of this, no charismatic speaker who can instill this belief in me. I just intuit it. I trust my intuitive self.
If this is true, I have no reason to ever fear. Of course, that has nothing to do with the motivation to be prudent. It’s not that I fear running a red light; it’s that I am present and wise enough to intend to do things that preserve my life. Please stop here for a moment, and ponder that idea.
So let’s get back to how to move beyond the bugs in your operating system. Just as the propaganda—often “bugs”---of the world have corrupted the “hard drive” of your operating system, the propaganda of the heart is capable of debugging that system, cleaning it up.
These are the basic steps you can take to do that:
- Get clear on your beliefs and intentions concerning what is important to you. Envision what you intend for your life to be.
- Create and practice ways of reminding yourself of the importance of these beliefs regularly and frequently. Write down the most important aspects of your vision and read them daily when you get up and when you are ready for sleep. Create a one-sentence power statement that you print and put in places where you will see it frequently. My power statement: I am calm, humble, loving, trusting power now.
- Choose to be more and more aware of opportunities you get to practice these more loving beliefs.
Eventually, you will get to a point when you will have no more use for beliefs of any kind. You will just be.
You are where you are now not because of the experiences you have had in life but because of how you have reacted to these experiences. By utilizing heart propaganda, you can move beyond all the ways of reacting to life that have not worked for you. I urge you to experiment with the ideas in this article as a way of being more kind to yourself, as a way of becoming the more loving being that you are at depth.

Televised Poison-America's Got Talent
Televised Poison: “
Spiritually, much of American television is a cesspool that pollutes the mind and tends to muffle the voice of the heart. A new low has been reached with the prime time series, “
This show is gutless ego food. It portrays the judges as gods and the contestants' performances as being crucially pivotal life events, leaving courtesy and compassion completely out of the picture.
Confusion and contradiction are the judges’ habits. They often don’t know how to judge a performer whom they can be thrilled with one moment and dismissing the next. The message underneath: "Even TV stars can be confused. It's good to be confused. I'm confused."
This is just a facet of the propaganda this series exemplifies.
The show’s three judges, who shall go nameless here, are obviously coached in the art of heartlessness. Suffice it to say that one of the judges is a washed-up comedian who never really hit the big time until he became a game show host. Another of the judges is married to a famously drug-addled rock musician. A third judge who has a talent for subtle nastiness is somehow popular in
You might call some of the words above “judgment”. They are simple observations.
Bringing on contestant performers who have never been on the big stage before, many of whom obviously have at least a bit of stage fright to begin with, is an opportunity for the judges to magnify many of the contestants’ fears. Prior to their performances on the most recent show, some were reminded by the judges that they were about to make “the most important performance of their lives”. How’s that for calming stage fright?
Miss a note or miss a step in an otherwise fine performance and the judges imply that you are probably not going to make the cut. If you look a little “slow”, be prepared to have a judge imply that, regardless of your performance, you are probably too stupid to repeat it in
An extraordinary senior citizen who created something of a symphonic masterpiece whistling by blowing into her hands was panned by the cold judges. A sweet guitarist’s vulnerable, open-hearted demeanor was characterized by one of the judges as meek and unprofessional. A fire-thrower was warned he’d probably not make the grade because one of his fire machines failed to ignite, like that was enough to damn him.
The messages:
- “Fear the disapproval of others. Their opinion of you is more important than your own.”
- “Do not mess up because you will be judged and the judgment will hurt.”
- Underneath that message: “Maybe it is wise to just not participate in life so that you do not risk embarrassment or disappointment. It is so much easier to judge others.”
Make no mistake about it: these judges are either witless allies for the dark side or are intentionally feeding a monster whose purpose is to spiritually and emotionally poison an audience that is already quite sick to begin with if they are even watching.
Who wants to model someone who can take delight in the mistakes of others? Who wants to live their lives vicariously as “powerful judges” of performance art who have the influence to send an entertainer to either to the “glory” of
The ultimate message is one in which judgment is glorified as something that gives those who judge power. But wait! In the last episode of the season, the audience will get to judge. The audience will have the power to damn or to elevate. It will have been trained by the show’s judges to be cold, merciless and petty.
“
In this sick world in which we live, we have allowed our governments, most of our religions and our entertainment media do more than just judge us. We have allowed them to bleed us of our self-respect, our dignity and our true power by making their ideas about what is important in life more important than our own beliefs.
What is true power? Some would have you think that it has to do with making someone else look smaller so they, themselves, can look bigger. Others may tell you that power has to do with manipulation, bank balances, the kind of car you drive or your ability and willingness to instill guilt or elicit fear. Real power has nothing to do with any of that. It is, at depth, only about loving response and being loving.
My challenge to you is to simply be aware of the kinds of activities and entertainments that pretend to entertain and empower but that really are sucking your energy, depleting your desire to exercise true and loving power.
I believe that we are all here in our lifetimes to realize our loving nature and our Oneness. Watching heartless television programming sends us down a very unproductive path. What path do you intend to be on?
Life is full of propaganda, from news media, from our governments, from our religions and from our entertainment sources. The time has come to be aware of propaganda that is dangerous and destructive, and to identify with the heart and it's loving propaganda. With consistent awareness, the practice of Heart Propaganda can set one free from the self-imposed prison of false, self-destructive belief. What this entails is a clarity about what you truly believe along with the commitment to feed yourself these truths frequently and regularly. This is what the various tools available on the Your Pause Button website is all about.
Feeding one’s brain with the kind of toxic crap found on “
In choosing, rather, to live a more enlightened life and to help create a better, harmonious world, focus on what you intend to create. It is destructive to focus on what you want to avoid. Envisioning regularly and frequently a loving world is a powerful step in the creation of that world. Let's create it together.
