The Magic in Giving

These days, so many are in chaos, overwhelm and fear.  We tend to have very full plates and often take little time to nurture our deep self, or nurture others.  Being of service is a way of nurturing our deep self: Self.
.
In the times soon to come, we will be a people whose lives are about giving.  We will lose the ways we have learned that have to do with fear about getting what we need, anxiety over whether we will get what we think we need. When help is given to others without expectation of reward, magical events tend to occur: It feels good to be of service, good to let go of the daily challenges we have about survival or what we think we must do to get along.
.
If we are all, indeed, part of a collective One, then giving to others is a wonderful way of nurturing Our Self.  In offering to serve without condition, without selfish motive, we raise our own vibration and that of the collective.  The Universe is asking us to trust this truth.
.
So I humbly ask you to think about what you might do, for just a day, to be of service to someone who you know is challenged.  Think, please, about how good you would feel if someone reached out to help you in a time when you could truly appreciate some help.

For those of you in the San Diego area, such an opportunity is featured below.  If you are elsewhere, you might go to Craigslist---see who needs a ride to someplace near where you are going anyway---or your local food bank or a neighbor who you know has been having a tough time and ask how you can be of service.  Rather than see it as a new burden, you might choose to see it as a way of lightening your own load.

There is a key to making giving powerful in your life.  It's simple, yet most people do not know this secret:
.
If you let your ego step in and use giving to others as a way of avoiding facing something in yourself that is with you for you to deal with, then you take much of the power out of that giving.  Make your life fully about giving, yet realize that nurturing and giving to the Self is important to bring into balance with giving to the apparent Outer.
-
And of course I am talking about the Higher Self, not the apparent egoic self that sees indulging the self as something found in a frequent pint of ice cream or six pack of beer....or whatever your apparent egos' thing is.  The "power" you get from identifying with that "self" is weak, artificial and destructive.  This artificial power strangles the will of the heart as it is sought or maintained.
.
It is impossible to be of fully of service to others unless you are willing to be fully loving and accepting of your Self, the Divine no-thingness that you are.  Willingness, a sense of worthiness to be served, and a sense of gratitude for service rendered are likewise important.
.
And that leads us to another big secret, one that almost all religion intends to hide from you, one that can only be understood and practiced by the heart, one that is impossible to grasp with the mind:

All of us are one, infinite, fully connected, Divine Us.  your_pause_button
Let's more of us start reflecting this.

Compassionate Volunteer Opportunity on Sacred Ground
...and Medicine Prayer Drum Circle: This Saturday 1/21
.
Note: also looking for legal help for her to possibly remain on the land, something she cannot afford to pay for
.
On Saturday, January 21and on the following Saturday 1/28 we will be assembling a group to be of service to one who is ready for our help.  Roxanne Arispe is a shaman and direct descendent of iconic Native Americans. She lives alone--big house/expansive acreage---and has had Multiple Sclerosis for several years.  We are assembling these two Saturdays to be of assistance to her.  She is being forced by health and financial challenges to move from the sacred land she has called home in Potrero.  The land is near the blessed mountain, Cuchama, which is today known as Tecate Peak.  It's about an hours' drive from downtown San Diego.
If these days do not work for you, please let me know when you are available.  I will be going out there multiple times in the next month and her need for help is ongoing.
During the day, we will help her clean up/organize her place and assemble some of her personal goods and furniture for a garage sale.  There is much work to do, lots to clean up and move.  I am looking for people to help on the 21st and 28th.
On the 21st, around sunset, we will have a wopela (potluck) and then a Medicine Drum circle led by Roxanne.  She will provide the stew and breads.  We can bring side dishes.
The home/land is about 40 miles east of San Diego.  We will carpool there.  On the 21st, the first group will arrive around 9 am and the other later.  And if you want to drive yourself, you can come at any time that works for you.
Roxanne is guardian to several hybrid wolves and wolf puppies that will be safely segregated for your sense of ease!

Inside space and tents are available for those wishing to stay the night on the 21st.  Sunrises are wonderful there.  Some of us staying the night may hike up Cuchama on Sunday morning.  Please let me know in advance if you are interested in this.
.
We are also collecting donations to help pay for the nutritional supplements she is using to deal with the MS.

While I do not claim to be a "fully enlightened being", I have been blessed with many teachers and I have found a clear sense of purpose and vision after half a lifetime of fear, frustration, anger, addiction, and self-sabotage. My teachers have taken many forms: Local mentors, great books, Native American/Lakota teachers, the calm and heat of the desert, sound healers, meditative practice, conferences/seminars and the basic joys and challenges of life.

Some of the most cathartic realizations/changes I have experienced have come in the silence of meditation. While some might call the clarity felt in these moments as “channeling”, it is my sense that the words and feelings that have come to me do not necessarily have an external source: my truth is that the deepest wisdom comes from within us. We simply are challenged to recognize this source and trust its high value.

Having spent so much of the earlier times in my life in what some might call a living hell, my inspiration is to offer ideas and encouragement to others who intend to have a life of more presence, calm, trust and love. I believe that all this is possible, particularly when one builds a sense of value for the wisdom that is within.

I welcome your questions and feedback.
